On June 2, 2012, join Co-Motion Cycles and Rolf Prima for the inaugural Oregon Gran Fondo (site to be activated by 2/20/2012), a superb bicycle ride in some of the best cycling country in the world: Lane County, Oregon. If you're a cyclist, you've heard the words "Gran Fondo" before. The term means "big rie" or "great distance", or in the case of the Oregon Gran Fondo, a 100+ mile bicycle ride which is also a race for the competitively inclined.

The Oregon Gran Fondo is dedicated to families, providing ride options of 31 miles, 71 miles or the main event 120 mile ride. Oregon Gran Fondo headquarters is the picturesque town of Cottage Grove, its Bohemia Park bustling with a pre-ride charity breakfast, an expo of locally-produced wares and activities for the kids, and a post-ride celebration with great food, a beer garden and entertainment for everyone.
The mass start of the Oregon Gran Fondo riders will be spectacular, with the Cottage Grove Police Department escorting all riders to the outskirts of the city for safety. Then the excitement builds as the competitive riders charge off to begin their race for the best time up the long grade into the Coast Range. The gorgeous climb with its amazing views across the forested hills and fertile valleys of southern Lane County will be timed for all riders, with special awards going to best times for men, women, and age categories from juniors to masters 70+. But you don't have to be an athlete to win- we'll keep it fun by also awarding best costume, best attitude and some other insanity (categories and awards to be announced) both for riders and/or their bicycles.

Along the Oregon Gran Fondo route, riders will be nourished by local color, such as farmers and Grange groups, entertained by fiddle players or school bands, and cheered on by cattle, goats, and the occasional rural resident*. While the racers scrap at each other like demons, everyone else is encouraged to make the most of the day. Don't be surprised to find yourself enjoying a well-deserved slice of pie while being serenaded by ukuleles under the canopy of Oregon's big-leaf maples in the Callapooya Mountains. We promise a Grand day for building Fond memories: A perfect day on your bicycle with the friends who came with you and the new ones you'll meet along the way. That's the Oregon Gran Fondo.
We hope you can join us!
*We're still working on many of the finer details, but rest assured, we aim to please. If we can't get ukuleles, we should at least be able find a kazoo band!
