Co-Motion Desert Training Camp

Tandems in the Desert

The first ever PAC Tour/Co-Motion Tandem Desert Training Camp, held in the Arizona desert between February 18th and the 25th, is now a warm and sunny memory. For those of us who came from the cold or wet climates, which applied to most of North America that week, the desert between Tucson and Phoenix was a welcome diversion. The chilly morning temperatures quickly yielded to comforting sun every day during the tour as the tandem teams wound our way to the next motel. Lon Haldeman and Susan Notorangelo, owners of PAC Tour, made sure that the riders' only concern was to ride our bikes, all other details were smoothly handled by the staff. Co-Motion tandems were represented well and the group photo above shows us in our tired bliss after five days on the road.

The highlights included the varied terrain of the Arizona desert, the smooth and skillful teams and the friendships made during six days and 500 miles of riding, and of course let's not forget the Space Age Motel in Gila Bend, Arizona. I was sure that we'd ridden our tandem right into a time warp and it was 1961 again. The only thing missing were big cars with tail fins parked in the parking lot.

This was the last "official" Co-Motion tour for 2006 but if you go to our "tour page" from here there are a couple of very nice options for European trips this year.
